Originally I envisioned that the relationship between Sandra and Lucas had been going on for several years, 5 in fact. But that wasn’t working with how Lucas was coming out in the writing. Originally in this chapter, I was going to have him be even more obsessed with the dominance of Sandra. That was going to be the motivation of why he didn’t want Margaret. Initially I was trying to pass her off as quiet, meek, submissive, soft, everything that Sandra isn’t. And that’s why he didn’t want to go out with her. At one point in an earlier iteration, he reveals he would have a relationship with her but only if it was in a threesome situation, I think hinting that if she became a submissive of Sandra’s, then he would jump at the chance to play with her.

But I didn’t like how Lucas craved Sandra. I do want him to crave her, but it wasn’t fitting with his personality. And with Margaret, I didn’t like how he was viewing her and the whole submissive thing… It just wasn’t working out. I also really have come to like the idea of Margaret. I think she’s going to come back at some point. With that in mind, I rewrote much of the description of what happened on date night. Margaret is just a cutie pie (switch?) that really clicked with Lucas.

So then why doesn’t Lucas want a relationship with her?

Well… Either he’s embarrassed to tell her about his contract with Sandra, doesn’t think she’ll like that side of him and dump him, ooor… He’s still enamored with Sandra because their relationship is new and juicy, the honeymoon period if you will.

I liked that last option most so I rewrote a bit of backstory about Lucas and Sandra, made it so that they hadn’t met as early in the timeline. I think it’s come out a bit better. But it also screwed me over because I’d forgotten I had Sandra buy him a car… SO! I cut this almost entirely and instead gave him a beater to drive around in. He doesn’t make much money in his watch dog firm and he’s still young so he’s been saving up and isn’t quite there yet.

Enjoy a glimpse into a different reality of Monterey Valley where Sandra has purchased Lucas a car after being with him for over 5 years!
